Projects

During the course of my studies in the MA program for Professional and Technical Writing Program at UALR, I've grown in a positive way as a writer and editor. The classes listed below, as well as the class instructors, helped me to develop my writing and editing style. Also, they helped me to develop my writing process and values which make a successful technical writer and editor.

  • Language Theory, Rhetorical Theory, Theory of Technical Communication, and Composition Theory provided scholarship and a solid foundation for me to follow good technical writing practices and methods such as audience analysis.

  • Editing for Publication and Technical Style and Editing helped me to improve my editing skills and writing style.

  • Writing Software Documentation and Working with Writers helped me to develop software skills and collaborative writing skills that are useful in the workplace (online and offline). Also, I learned how to work in teams and as a project manager.

  • Writing for the Web, Usability Testing and Design, and Document Design helped me to create dynamic, user-friendly websites and documents such as slide presentations.

My portfolio contains the best samples of projects that I created during the span of my studies. For each project, I provide the following information:

  • Project Description

  • Audience

  • Composing Process

  • Challenges

  • Theory/Best Practices

I selected the projects based upon my interests in editing and visual design. I grouped them into four common themes which correspond to the types of in-demand job skills that employers are looking for which are editing, graphic design, collaborative writing, and usability/web design. Also, I have a page in which I created a few blog posts. Each project meets some of the learning objectives of the MA program for Professional and Technical Writing Program at UA Little Rock such as the following:

  • Conduct primary and secondary research that will add to knowledge in the technical       communication field and participate in the profession beyond the classroom (workplaces, publications, professional organizations, etc.)

  • Analyze a wide range of rhetorical situations and create documents that will work best in each particular situation in an ethical manner.

  • Use technology effectively to create and deliver persuasive, informative, engaging texts and explore technologies as rhetorical contexts.

  • Understand the history and major theories of the technical communication profession; know how the rules of the craft were shaped and how they are changing.
